Parents
  • What career fields do you have programs available in?
    We have approximately 28 different careers that you can explore. Please refer to the program list.
  • What age/grade do you have to be to participate?
    The program is for high school students, ages 14-20.
  • What does it cost?
    Programs range in price from $30 and up depending on the program. Some programs has supply costs that are in additional to $30 fee.
  • When do the groups meet?
    Programs vary in meeting times and duration. They can range from once a month to once every other week.
  • My son/daughter is really busy with school, sports and a part-time job, is there anyway he/she can fit this into their schedule?
    What’s great about this program is that it’s flexible. Most programs meet 8-12 times total. For example, the group may meet the second Tuesday of every month, or six Wednesdays in a row. If Tuesdays do not work, find a program that meets on a Thursday. Most of the time students can make it work with their schedule.
  • How can my son/daughter get involved?
    This is easy! Refer to our “Getting Involved” section. Contact us and let us know your son/daughters’ interests. The Exploring Division will contact you when a program in their area of interest begins.
  • Are there any scholarship opportunities for Explorers?
    Yes. There are some National Exploring Scholarships offered. Please refer to the “Resources” section of the website.
Students

  • Will it be like school, with people lecturing to us?
    No. Although some of the information shared is done via presentation, all programs include hands-on activities and/or tours.
  • What age/grade do you have to be to participate?
    The program is for high school students, 9th -12th grade, ages 14-20.
  • What does it cost?
    Programs range in price from $30 and up depending on the program. Some programs has supply costs that are in additional to $30 fee.
  • How can I get involved?
    This is easy! Refer to our “Getting Involved” section. Contact us and let us know your interests. The Exploring Division will contact you when a program in your area of interest begins.
  • Do I get paid for this?
    No, this is somewhat like an internship, and although you do not receive any compensation for your time the experience is invaluable.
  • Can I get school credit for participating?
    It depends. Some school districts in Monroe County do offer some credit for participation in Exploring. Please check with your guidance counselor. A form is available on the site if you are eligible for credit.
  • I’m really busy. Besides school and homework I play sports, am active in youth group and have a part-time job. Can I find time for this?
    What’s great about this program is that it’s flexible. Most programs meet 8-12 times total.   • When do the groups meet?
    Most groups meet one evening during the week for 1-2 hours.
  • Are there any scholarship opportunities for Explorers?
    Yes. There are some National Exploring Scholarships offered. Please refer to the “Resources” section of the website.
Businesses
  • What will the program cost?
    It will cost a company/organization approximately $200 plus the cost of mailing the invitation to students. Any money the company/organization spends on program supplies or refreshments can be offset by the fee charged to the student.
  • What about insurance?
    The fee the students pay to the Exploring Division covers them under the insurance of Learning For Life. The fees the company pays covers the adults associated with the program as well unit liability insurance. The insurance acts as a secondary insurance.
  • How many sessions do we have to provide?
    This is flexible. We can work with what resources you have available. We recommend 8-12 sessions.
  • When do we have these sessions?
    This is flexible. It’s up to you and when you can provide the program.
  • How many students do we have to offer this program to?
    It’s up to you and the resources and space that you have available. Programs that currently exist range in size from 10-60 students.
  • Who runs the program?
    Employees, members or appointees of your company/organization.
  • How do the students get to the meetings?
    Students are responsible for their own transportation.
  • Who develops the program?
    The company/organization with the help of the Exploring Executive will develop the program.
  • How do I get the students to participate?
    Students complete a career interest survey administered by the Exploring Division. The Exploring Division can identify students and their career interest from these surveys.
School Counselors
  • Do students receive school credit for their participation in Exploring?
    This is entirely up to your school district.

  • How can a student get involved?

The Exploring Division will contact that when a program in their area of interest begins. Also, contact the Exploring Division and ask to be added to their e-mail list so that you will be notified of upcoming Exploring opportunities.
